Floating Points 3 will address the subject of "Ubiquitous Computing" or
"Ubicomp," where computing and wireless capabilities are so integrated
into
the fabric of everyday life (clothing, cars, homes, and offices) that
the
technologies recede into the background and become indistinguishable
from
everyday activities. Panel 1 will focus on responsive environments and
systems, and Panel 2 will concentrate on networked devices such as
barcodes
and RFID tags and creative strategies to subvert the ever-enlarging
practice
of surveillance and data mining.

[event] ARTEFACT festival - 13>18 FEB 2006 - art & new media - Leuven, Belgium

13 > 18 February 2006
STUK arts centre Leuven en provincie Vlaams-Brabant present
ARTEFACT FESTIVAL
ART & NEW MEDIA

During the ARTEFACT festival for art and new media, the STUK building
will be reinvented by Belgian and international artists. For six days
they will use images, sounds and technology to build a fascinating and=

poetic world.

The program consists of installations, concerts, theatre &
performances, a symposium and a software / video exhibition. ARTEFACT
will connect to other locations over the internet, one of the
highlights of the selection will, to a large extent, be an online
experience.

Physical space and how it is perceived will be the common element in
the program. All participating artists are looking for surprising forms=

of presentation, sublime moments, corporeal experiences and emotional
technology. Artists and scientists will research space, place &
distance and translate it into new forms.

The varied musical program of ARTEFACT features the encounter of
architecture and music: sounds become places, and spaces become music.

[ann] Proposal: A North American No Border Network

//please forward to interested groups/people//

http://deletetheborder.org/node/579

Invitation to a Network: Freedom of Movement / Libertad de Movimiento

PROPOSAL: FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT A North American No Border Network

Through our work we have met some amazing sisters and brothers in
struggle in Mexico, Canada, the United States and all across the world.
We have begun to learn about each other and as a result, learn more
about other groups and struggles emanating from what we believe to be
similar and related causes.

//

PROPUESTA: LIBERTAD DE MOVIMIENTO Una Red Norteamericana que dice No
a

As we know, the War on Terror has escalated an already ongoing war
against immigrants and many other groups deemed undesirable or
exploitable. Meanwhile, people around the world are attempting to d=
eal
with war, ecological crisis, and both historical and ongoing
colonization. Migration is one of the primary ways of dealing with these
horrors. Criminalized by the state, exploited by bosses, migrants are
denied freedom before they even arrive. We believe, however, that
freedom isn't something derived from any government; it is created from
below, beyond borders. Hence, freedom of movement must be fundamental
to any movement for collective liberation.

Working with the principle that no one is illegal, our intent is to help
amplify struggles for immigrant rights and dignity and more effectively
counter the rising racism and repression in our communities in a variety
of ways. Whether people are working against militarized borders,
deportations, detentions, free trade, racism or for decolonization,=
we
feel that we can aid each other in our common struggle for freedom of
movement and the right to stay for all.

We are therefore proposing the creation of a no border activist network
between groups in Mexico, Canada and the U.S. We have taken only a few
steps toward the realization of this network. This is obviously a huge
and complex endeavor, so our goal is to place enough tangible
information before you so that many aspects can be developed more
collectively and organic

CULTURETV NEWS

Our playlist of this week presents the new site-specific installation by
Ne
w York-based artist Jon Kessler, especiallly created for P.S.1 in NY.
Refere
ncing issues relevant to contemporary society; including politics, war,
adv
ertising, propaganda and surveillance. KesslerB4s work thrusts the viewer

directly into a complex visual experience. Though sources of inspiration
an
d information are varied and include reality television such as "The
Swan"
,kabuki and "Apocalypse Now".

The Unseen Video, from Daniel Scheibel & Ferdinand Weinrother (D).A
weather
controlled, dynamic music video for Mike Milosh's - You Make Me Feel.
The
Unseen Video is much more than a normal, static music video. It is a
video
that is affected by the weather and local time from the position of the
vie
wer.

Also this week we show you works made by one of the new Chinese artists
Zha
o Bo is from Chongqing, Sichuan province in south-central China. Zhao Bo
ha
s captured this life on the streets - the clash of communist and
capitalist
, east and west, the ridiculous, the sly, the ludicrous and the
overwhelmin
g feeling that everyone is on the make.

The video and photo installation Relax by Ralph Kämena. The starting
p
oint of Relax is the utopian lay-out of a Vinex district (i.e. a new
housin
g estate on the outskirts of a town): the idea that an environment could
be
invented on a drawing board. Relax is a work in progress, in which the
art
ificiality of the Vinex architecture will be connected with the intimacy
of
homely interiors in a lyrical way.

Last week we already announced the first video of a serie from Valentina
Ni
si. The Media Portrait of the Liberties concerns the development,
productio
n, and interactive delivery of multiple short stories about the Dublin
Libe
rties community.

The famous filmscene and song of Gene Kelly has been translated by Peter

Hope you will enjoy the videos.
