*$5000 MONA Horse Bazaar Prize

*MONA (www.mona.net.au ) and Horse Bazaar
(www.horsebazaar.com.au) are offering the world’s richest prize for the
production of panoramic content.

The Mona Horse Bazaar Prize for panoramic content is an open digital art
prize for the production of screen-based content that best uses Horse
Bazaar’s unique panoramic projection system. The screens are
custom-built for the environment and extend for nearly 20 metres around
the bar. Casting aside the traditional 4:3 screen format, visual artists
are asked to produce digital content at an 8:1 ratio.

The Mona Horse Bazaar Prize aims to cultivate the appreciation and
production of panoramic virtual décor.

This is an acquisitional competition; winning pieces will become a part
of the MONA art collection.

*Entries close on July 13th*. Submissions will be shown at Horse Bazaar
in the lead up to the gala and award night that will take place on
Saturday 21st July. Entry is unrestricted and artists are invited to
submit multiple entries should they so desire.

International entries are welcome. Feel free to spread the word!

:::: Call for projects VERSCH festival 2007/2008 ::::

VERSCH is a small festival for innovating media art, electronic music
and cross-over. A showcase of installations, performance, live cinema
VJ-ing, live music, DJ-ing and cross-over is organized once per two
months at the Night theatre Sugar Factory in Amsterdam, the
Netherlands. More information at www.versch.org.

The synergy between image and sound in installation or performance form
is one of the characteristics of the (audio-visual) projects. New
approaches in the form and the position of the performers/ the public
towards the work are central. The music doesn't conform to one style
and moves into the direction of eclectic pop/dance, deep-house, minimal
and electro. Fresh, accessible compositions and cross-over are the key
words.

The Artists can introduce their work to the organization by filling in
the entry form correctly. Please add representative project
documentation to your entry.

Kind regards,

inquiry for Chlebnikov recordings

Via: Mason Dixon

From: "Dirk Vekemans"
Subject: inquiry for Chlebnikov recordings
Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2007 20:53:58 +0200

For one of my ongoing things I'm rather desperately looking for
recordings
made of/by a Russian native speaker reading/performing Velemir
Chlebnikov's
Zangezi pieces. There's an old Italian recording available at Ubu
web, but
unfortunately that is quite useless for my needs. What I need is a
reading/performance allowing a non-Russian speaking person like
myself to
get a feel for the text based on correct pronunciation , and , if
possible,
a somewhat coherent interpretation/understanding of the texts.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone on either of these lists could
point me
to an existing recording.

Thank you,
dirk

A Memex Wall
Superfactory(TM) in a cooperation with mi_ga

Rapid flow of letters and numbers on a monitor wall has nothing to do
with chaos theory which can cause big disruptions in our world. It has
also nothing to do with hackers world as one would like to say. Thus we
show the monitor wall within a context of "memex game" a "memory
extender" game, the term of which was used to call a proto-hypertext
computer system influencing the development of subsequential hypertext
and intellectual augmenting computer systems. A "memex game" is a visual
translation of that complex systems proposed by Vannevar Bush back in
1945. Here you get to know exciting people of the scene - the hacker
artisan, the peer-to-peer oparist, the open source ego, etc. - all
necessary to build up a more or less complex structure of contemporary
economy and politics. The monitor wall or a Bookshelf how originally was
called, represents a network traffic translated into descriptive form,
so the unseen side of "networking" would be understandable or at least
readable. In a technical terms the flow of letters and numbers on the
monitors would sound like 'tcpdump', a common computer network debugging
tool.

In the game you have to find certain motives with as few clicks as
possible and as quick as possible. With click on 'neues Spiel' (new
game) for a short time nine pictures are shown, whose situation must be
reminded! You start the game with 100 points, each second is started one
point is taken and each wrong click costs 3 points. Score as much points
as possible and be a winner! Much fun and success!

call for entries. short films and videos for backup_festival 2007

.

The 9th Annual Backup_festival will take place from 18. – 21. October 2007 in Weimar, Germany.

This year, once again, we are looking for young film makers and media creatives interested in
submitting work for the international category of the backup.award and who would like the
chance to win an award from the 3750 Euros worth of prizes we have on offer.

Backup is interested in film works that reflect and re-define the limits of short film and video
and which explore creatively different methods and styles of production. In particular this
year the festival is focused on the hybridisation of visual communication methods and on
works which seek to break down traditional practices of narrative structure, production
and distribution.

In acknowledgement that many works submitted will cross-over numerous traditional category
guide-lines in their content, The Backup_Festival pre-selection committee will sort entries
according to their content and form. Works will then be put into competition blocks that reflect
their character. This frees film makers from needing to adhear to strict self-categorization of
their creative output.

Prizes for the best entries will be awarded by an independent jury of filmmakers, TV executives,
producers, designers and media theorists.

The call for entries will be announced at international academies of film and art, universities,
polytechnics, Film and Media Agencies, Film Clubs and centres of learning and culture
via www.backup-festival.de

To qualify for entry into the competition, all works must be submitted in a common video format,
must have been completed after the 1st of January 2006 and must be no longer than 15 min.
in length.

The deadline for entries is the 31st of July 2007

All entries must be submitted by the 31st of July 2007 and must include a DVD of the work/s,
film stills, a dialogue list, a synopsis, a filmography and a biography of the film maker.

[Nictoglobe][Final Call - New Media as Soft Arms] deadline June 30th

Via: "Andreas Jacobs"

Sorry for crossposting

Creative Resistance New Media as Soft Arms

[Final Call - deadline June 30th ]

"How to avoid life itself becoming an immaterial product?"

When the abstract (as a better circumscription of
creative/culture/knowledge) industries consume its own producer, the eternal
immaterial Heilstaat is reached, forever lost of its materiality , the human
race at last is able to fulfill its final goal, the complete abandonment of
all things earthly and material.

‘Body without organs’ as a final solution. Human life itself as commodity.
Makeable on demand, like the right to reproduce as you like it. Body
shopping in the real world. The destruction of criticism.
Health care, the whole health industries, society’s policy towards
privileging certain gen technology driven program which purpose is to
repopulate the world full of happy, creative people. China’s campaign of
excluding potential parents from adoption by judging them by there weight.
Reasoning: fat people produce fat people, which is not of our liking. An
exhibition, currently in Amsterdam where the corpses of executed Chinese
criminals are exposed to entertain the public.

People tend to forget their past. Only one generation ago, there was a
strong discourse on how to shape society with the then vivid memories of
Dresden, Hiroshima and Auschwitz in mind. It looks like this particular view
is abandoned and very naïve the same roads are once again taken.

To take a position in this field of conflicting and immense influential
mechanisms is both important and difficult to achieve. Destructing the past
as a promise for the future? There are more questions then answers, that is
why we have to produce ‘good’ questions to be able to demarcate the
necessary steps to be taken , not to repeat ourselves and making the same
mistakes over and over again on a much bigger scale.
‘New’ media has to be armed as a protective force to defend the future.

Subvert!

Nictoglobe invites you to send a short (max 500 words) submission which
reflects upon ‘creative resistance - new media as soft arms’ as a starting
point to develop a more profound and public, artistic led discussion about
this subject. Send your submissions as a word document attachment to
submission2007@nictoglobe.com with - creative resistance - as subject.
Deadline 30 Juni 2007. All entries will be published in the summer issue of
Nictoglobe.
